Why I Teach Piano Lessons!

As a busy teenager, I drifted away from piano.

I had school, sports, clarinet and oboe in band, color guard at football games, and spent as much time with my friends as I could get. My mom wouldn't let me quit.

Mom always wanted piano lessons herself, but her father could play anything by ear and said, "You don't need lessons, just sit down and play!" Mom told me that as an adult I'd be glad I stuck with it. I doubted her. But, she was right, and I'm so thankful she stayed steadfast.

What I remember looking forward to most in my own music lessons was Saturday morning classes. My teacher ran group classes in music history and theory, and they felt like a music party. We studied composers, played games, did theory projects and we even wrote our own music!

When I started teaching, I didn't have group classes. It didn't take long to know something was missing. I wanted my students to have those music party feelings too!

Now they do. In my piano lessons, children listen to each other, keep a steady beat together and play as a piano ensemble with backing tracks. At the end of a play-through, someone often pumps their fist and shouts "Yes!" Children watch a friend do something and think, "They can do this, I can too!" I've seen very shy children come out of their shell and even become class leaders.

My mom made sure I stuck with piano. I want to make sure your child looks forward to it. I'd love to meet you both.

I have many years of teaching experience with both children and adults, and I love bringing laughter to my students as they travel on their musical journey.

With a Masters Degree in Piano Performance I can help you reach your musical goals.
